Housing Affordability & Smart Growth
Housing Affordability & Cutting Red Tape
Washington’s housing crisis is being driven by rising regulations, permitting delays, impact fees, energy mandates, and costly building requirements that continue making homes more expensive to build and own. We need to get to the root drivers of affordability and make it easier and less expensive to build housing in Washington.
• Reduce excessive state regulations, mandates, and red tape that continue increasing the cost of construction and homeownership.
• Review and reform costly energy and building requirements that are driving up prices for builders and families without practical affordability considerations.
• Support efforts to streamline permitting and environmental review processes while still protecting our natural resources and local communities.
• Work with local governments to address rising impact fees and other policies that continue making new housing unaffordable for working families.
• Expand trade and workforce development programs to lower construction costs and increase the number of skilled workers building homes in Washington.
